Maybe as Christain says, and I accept that.
Maybe WMDs become much more destructive and destroy civilization?
In that case, why not change major historical events to reflect the fact of the Arcane.
Many scientific facts would definately change, but I could probably never describe the destruction caused by the "Arcane-Nuclear Bombs". Too Fallout-esque? Probably. But It's more and more likely to happen as I continue to flesh out the details.
Ideas of changed historical moments in history:
* "Warlocks" or "Witches" working for both the Union and the Confederacy, causing the war to end in a stalemate?
* English are overwhelmed by "Mages" during the Revolutionary War?
* The Cold War actually becoming an actual war?
Many things could happen.
EDIT: Could I find some way to explain Arcane magic within humanity as a scientific phenomenon? And what about the Enchanted Weaponry that Christain mentioned? I should think about these things for the third part of this post.
EDIT: I did an Internet search, and found that this sort of idea is considered to be an ArcanePunk (similar to steampunk, but with magic and real-life technology). Look it up.
Well, the English would have had "mages" too. Maybe magic could have been banned though, because it's too dangerous. Therefore, WMDs might have never been created. Someone would have to be completely insane or stupid to make them unless they wanted to destroy the world.
ReplyDeleteActually, the world probably would've ended ages ago if Arcana existed. For instance, Hannibal (the one who crossed the Alps) was obsessed with "super weapons" (which, on that time, would've been elephants). If Arcana existed, he would've found a way to turn it into a super weapon and would've causes catastrophic damage.
